For contractor crews
How Pump Rental Is Structured, and Who It Fits
Think of it as splitting the job in two. Portland Concrete supplies the pump truck and a trained operator who manages the equipment from setup through clean-out. Your crew takes the discharge end of the line and handles all concrete placement, finishing pace, and quality control on the slab or pour zone. Neither side steps on the other's work.
The split makes sense on pours where a chute truck simply can't reach the placement zone, a backyard foundation in Southeast Portland, a second-floor deck pour in the West Hills, a tight commercial slab behind a loading dock. Rather than renting a pump you'd have to operate yourself, you get an experienced operator included in the hourly rate.
Before booking, we confirm pour volume, site access, and placement zone so the right equipment shows up. A line pump handles ground-level slab work and basement pours efficiently; a boom pump covers elevated or hard-to-reach placements. See our boom pump service and line pump service pages for full-service options, or check ready-mix supply if you also need the concrete itself.
How it works
Booking a Portland Concrete Pump Rental, Four Steps
-
Tell us the pour details
Volume, placement zone, site address, and your target pour date. A phone call or a quick sketch is usually enough. We confirm whether a line pump or boom pump fits the job and give you a written quote covering the hourly rate, setup fee, and any minimum charge.
-
Lock in the schedule
Once you confirm the quote, the pump and operator are reserved for your pour day. If your ready-mix supplier needs timing coordination, we can align on truck sequencing, or you manage that side yourself, whichever you prefer.
-
Pump truck arrives and sets up
The truck arrives at the agreed time, positions at the spot your crew identifies, and the line or boom is run to the placement zone. Pumping starts when the first concrete truck is ready to discharge. Your crew takes it from there.
-
Clean-out, depart, bill actual hours
After the last yard is placed, the line is flushed and the truck clears the site. Billing covers actual time from arrival to departure, no rounding up for idle time, no charges for hours the pump wasn't running.
Why contractors rent
When Concrete Pump Rental Beats Buying or Full-Service
Owning a pump only pencils out if you're running it constantly. For contractors who place their own concrete but only need pump capacity a handful of times a season, a tight residential foundation in Beaverton, a commercial slab pour in Gresham where the truck can't back in, renting by the hour is the practical answer. No maintenance overhead, no operator certification to carry, no equipment sitting idle between jobs.
Full-service pumping (where we manage the entire pour) is the right call when you want us handling coordination end to end. Rental is the right call when your crew owns the placement and you just need the equipment and a qualified operator on the pump side. The concrete gets placed either way; the question is who runs which part of the job.
Contractors working across the Portland metro, from warehouse slab pours in the industrial district to custom home foundations in Lake Oswego, use rental when the scope is clear and the crew is experienced. For projects where scope might shift, our full concrete pumping service gives more flexibility. Questions about what fits your job? The concrete FAQs cover common scenarios, and a concrete estimate starts the conversation with no obligation. You can also use the concrete calculator to nail down your pour volume before you call.

Common questions
Concrete Pump Rental in Portland, Questions Answered
Hourly rates, line vs boom, minimum charges and contractor expectations.
Rented their line pump for a backyard slab where my chute did not reach. Hourly billing, operator was great, pour went smoothly. Way cheaper than buying my own pump for occasional use.
Boom pump rental for a second-storey pour on a custom home. Operator coordinated with my crew, pumped at our placement rate, clean-out was professional. Will book again.
They were honest that line pump was the right tool when I asked about boom. Saved real money on my pour with no quality compromise. Right spec mattered.
Hourly billing was clean, no padding for time not used. Operator showed up on time, set up fast, no delays. The kind of service that makes me call back.
