Fixing Portland Foundations That Are Failing
When a concrete foundation shifts, settles, or bows inward, the problem runs deeper than the visible crack. Portland Concrete identifies what is driving the failure, water pressure, inadequate footing depth, or insufficient reinforcement, then executes a structural repair that stops the movement. Diagnosis first
Why Fixing Foundation Repair Means Finding the Root Cause
A wall that leans outward, a corner that has settled unevenly, horizontal cracks running across a basement wall, these are all signals that something underneath has failed. The actual cause is typically one of three: groundwater pushing against the exterior, a footing that was poured too shallow or has settled over time, or the original concrete slab was never reinforced enough for the weight it carries.
We do not recommend a repair until we know which one it is. Filling a crack on a bowing wall ignores the soil pressure that is pushing it inward. Real repair means addressing that pressure from outside, which often involves basement waterproofing and drainage upgrades. When the footing itself has failed, foundation underpinning extends it deeper and wider.
Small surface cracks benefit from early foundation crack repair before frost and water make them worse. Larger structural issues demand engineered reinforcement and sometimes excavation. Our free assessment gives you a clear picture of what is happening and what needs to happen next.
The repair sequence
How Portland Concrete Tackles Failing Foundation Repair
-
Assess the failure pattern
We examine cracks, wall tilt, sticking doors and windows, and the exterior soil and drainage to pinpoint whether water, footing failure, or reinforcement shortfall is the culprit.
-
Excavate and expose
For exterior repairs, we dig down to the affected section of the concrete foundation, confirming the damage visually and measuring the scope before specifying the structural fix.
-
Reinforce and rebuild
Structural repair involves adding rebar and concrete to strengthen failed walls, injecting structural-grade sealant into cracks, or using underpinning to deepen a footing that was never adequate.
-
Waterproof and backfill
The repaired concrete gets waterproofing applied, drainage is installed or upgraded, and backfill is placed carefully so the repair can cure without new loads.
Repair and protection go together
Why Concrete Foundation Repair Usually Includes Waterproofing
The reason a foundation fails is almost always water. Groundwater pressure pushes on the wall, frost cycles crack it wider, and moisture seeps in. Repairing the concrete without stopping the water means the same failure will happen again in a few years.
That is why we pair foundation waterproofing with structural repair. Crack repair handles smaller surface issues on its own. Underpinning handles deeper structural problems. But most repairs need both the structural fix and the water management to hold.

Foundation Repair Questions, Answered
Diagnosis, structural repair, waterproofing pairing and underpinning for failing foundations in Portland.
Diagnosed the cause as water pressure plus an undersized weeping tile. Fixed the drainage and the wall. Two springs since with no recurrence. Repair, not patch.
Bowing basement wall properly reinforced and the soil pressure addressed outside. Wall is straight, basement is dry, the house feels solid again.
Honest that part of the foundation needed underpinning, not just repair. Did both as needed, explained exactly why. No upsell, just the right fix.
Sticking doors went back to working normally after the repair settled. They had explained why that would happen and it did. Confidence inspiring.
