Your Portland Backyard Needs a Concrete Patio

Outdoor living starts with a solid slab. We excavate, compact the base, set the slope so water drains away from your house, and finish the concrete in stamped, exposed-aggregate or plain. Narrow gate or tight access is routine for us, and every project begins with a free written estimate and a realistic timeline.

  • Stamped, exposed or plain finishes
  • Tight-access yards handled with pumps

Foundation matters

How a Concrete Patio Stays Sound

A patio endures Portland rain, frost and thaw, so the work starts below grade. We excavate to proper depth, lay and compact a granular base, then set forms with a slope (typically two percent) that sheds water away from the house and foundation.

The concrete mix is air-entrained to handle freeze-thaw cycles. Control joints are cut on a layout that works with the patio's shape, and on stamped finishes those joints disappear into the pattern. The result is a slab that moves predictably and stays level underfoot.

We tie patios into adjacent walkways, extend them into full outdoor living spaces, and coordinate finishes across all residential concrete work on the property.

The sequence

Pouring a Concrete Patio Step by Step

  1. Site visit and access plan

We walk the yard, confirm the patio footprint and slope direction, and determine whether a truck can back in or if we need a pump or wheelbarrow runs.

  2. Excavate, base and forms

The area is dug to depth, a compacted granular base is installed, and forms are set to the finished height and drainage slope.

  3. Pour, screed and finish

The concrete is placed, screeded flat, and finished to your chosen style: stamped pattern, exposed aggregate, or plain broom finish.

  4. Joints, cure and handoff

Control joints are cut on layout, the slab cures per schedule, and we leave the yard clean with a date when the patio is ready for use.

Style and budget

Choose Your Patio Finish Style

The finish you pick shapes both the look and the cost. A plain concrete patio is the most economical option, a clean broom-finished surface ready for furniture and grills without fuss.

Move up to stamped concrete and you get slate, flagstone or plank patterns pressed into the slab, or choose exposed aggregate for a washed finish that reveals the stone and adds natural texture and slip resistance. If your existing slab is sound but tired, patio resurfacing refreshes it without a full tear-out.

Common questions

Concrete Patio Questions Answered

Pricing, access, finishes and cure time for Portland patios.

Concrete patios in Portland generally run $12 to $20 per square foot depending on the finish, the size and access to the yard. A plain patio sits at the low end; stamped work runs higher. Every quote is written and itemised after a site measure.
Yes. Most Portland backyards are reached with a concrete pump or wheelbarrow runs when a truck cannot back in. We check access on the free estimate and build the method into the quote, so a narrow gate is not a dealbreaker.
We build a deliberate slope away from the house into the base and forms, usually around two percent, so rain and meltwater run off instead of sitting on the slab or draining toward the foundation.
All concrete moves, so we control where. A compacted base, an air-entrained mix and control joints cut on layout keep shrinkage in the joint line. On a stamped patio those joints tuck into the pattern.
Most patios are placed in a day. You can walk on it within 24 to 48 hours and put furniture out after about a week. We give you the exact cure schedule when we hand it over.

Stamped a slate pattern across the whole patio. The colour matched the sample and the joints disappear into the pattern, exactly like they said they would.

Our yard has a narrow side gate so I assumed concrete was out. They pumped it over the fence and the patio drains away from the house perfectly.

Went with a plain broom finish to keep the budget down. It is flat, clean and the furniture sits level. No regrets going simple.

Resurfaced a tired old patio instead of tearing it out. Looks new, cost a fraction of a full replacement, and they were honest that the slab was still good.
