Targeted Sidewalk Repair in Portland
Concrete sidewalks rarely fail all at once. One corner settles, a crack opens along the joint, spalling eats the edge where salt spray hits. Portland Concrete inspects your walk methodically, identifies which sections are actually broken, and fixes only those. Lift settled slabs back to grade, patch surface damage with matching mortar, or replace individual sections that cannot be saved. You get a working sidewalk without the cost of a full tear-out. Free assessment, written quote.

Smart repair strategy
Why Sidewalk Repair Beats Full Replacement
Replacing an entire sidewalk when only two sections are damaged is like replacing your roof because one shingle is loose. The concrete slab under most of your walk is performing fine. Repair targets the actual problem: the settled corner, the cracked joint, the spalled edge. Lift it, patch it, or replace just that section to match the surrounding concrete.
We will not recommend repair if the whole slab is compromised. When the base has failed everywhere, the joints are failing in a pattern, or the concrete itself is thin and deteriorating across the entire walk, the honest call is a new concrete sidewalk rather than chasing repairs. We tell you that in the quote.
This same logic applies to our patio repair work and driveway repair calls. Targeted fixes save money and extend the life of concrete that is otherwise sound.
The repair process
How Portland Concrete Repairs Your Sidewalk
-
Inspect every joint
We walk the entire length of your sidewalk, probe each joint and section, mark settlement, cracks, spalling, and base issues. You see the assessment as we go and understand what is fixable in place versus what needs replacement.
-
Lift settled sections or patch
Settled concrete that is otherwise sound gets lifted back to grade using slab-jacking. Surface spalling or edge damage gets patched with a repair mortar that bonds and matches the original color and texture.
-
Replace sections that are past saving
Sections with structural cracks, failed bases, or severe deterioration are cut out cleanly and re-poured to match the surrounding sidewalk, including joint spacing and finish.
-
Seal joints and cure
All joints are cleaned and sealed so water drains as intended. Repaired sections are protected during cure, and the sidewalk is handed back ready to use.
Repair has limits
When Sidewalk Repair Is Not the Answer
Repair works when failures are isolated, the rest of the concrete is structurally sound, and the base under the failing sections can be corrected. It fails when the whole sidewalk is past saving, when fixing one section will lead to fixing the next section a year later, or when the base has failed everywhere.
We assess that honestly. If repair is just delaying the inevitable, the quote will recommend full sidewalk replacement instead. For sidewalks with only cosmetic issues like faded color or worn sealer, see decorative sidewalk options.

Common questions
Sidewalk Repair Questions, Answered
Lifting settled slabs, patching spalled edges, sectional replacement and when repair stops making sense.
They quoted three options, full replacement, sectional replacement on the two bad bits, or slab-jacking and a patch. We chose the middle one, half the cost, walk is solid two seasons in.
One corner had settled badly. Lifted back to grade, joint sealed, no replacement needed. Less money than I expected and the walk looks right again.
Honest assessment that two sections were past repair and the rest were fine. Replaced only those, matched perfectly. Real money saved versus the replacement quote from the other guys.
Spalled edge along the road-salt side got patched with a matching mortar. Bond has held, the patch is barely visible now. Worth doing instead of replacing the whole section.
