Patterned Stamped Concrete for Portland Commercial Sites

Stamped concrete transforms building entries, plaza areas, and outdoor feature spaces into stone-like surfaces that withstand public foot traffic and seasonal freeze-thaw cycles. Portland Concrete pours the structural slab first, then applies pattern and integral color with a sealer rated for our climate. Every project includes a free written estimate and a maintenance schedule.

  • Engineered slab with proper base and joints
  • Integral color throughout the concrete
  • Freeze-thaw rated sealer included

Built to last

Why Stamped Concrete Fails (and How We Prevent It)

Poor stamped installations crack through, fade, and chip within a season or two. The root cause is always the same: a thin slab poured over inadequate base prep, with no joint strategy and no sealer plan. We reverse that by starting with the slab itself. Subgrade compaction, gravel base, proper thickness, reinforcement, and a joint pattern that controls where cracks occur. Only then do we add the decorative finish.

Integral color mixed into the concrete means chips expose the same color underneath, not grey concrete. The stamping happens at the precise moment of plasticity so the pattern reads crisp. The sealer is formulated for UV exposure and our winter cycle, protecting both the color and the surface texture. When you re-seal on schedule, the stamped surface stays sharp for years.

We apply the same engineering standards to stamped work as we do to commercial parking lots and site sidewalks. For projects where a stained finish fits the aesthetic better, we offer that too. See our full decorative concrete range.

Installation sequence

How Stamped Concrete Gets Built in Portland

  1. Confirm pattern and color on-site

We bring sample boards showing the stamped pattern (stone, brick, ashlar, cobble, or custom) and integral color options. You see real samples at full scale before we pour, so the final look matches your vision.

  2. Prepare base and set slab specs

Subgrade is compacted, gravel base is laid, and the slab thickness and reinforcement are sized for the intended use (foot traffic, occasional vehicle access, fire lane requirements).

  3. Pour, consolidate, and stamp

Concrete with integral color is placed and worked to remove air. At the right moment of set, the pattern is stamped into the surface with crisp definition. Timing is critical to pattern clarity.

  4. Cure, seal, and hand off

The slab cures fully, then a UV- and freeze-thaw-rated sealer is applied at your chosen gloss level. We provide a written maintenance schedule so you know when to re-seal.

Long-term performance

The Sealer Is the Key to Durability

A stamped slab that gets re-sealed every few years looks identical to the day it was finished. The same slab without re-seals dulls, fades, and loses its color depth. The sealer is the working component; the slab and integral color are permanent.

We hand off a maintenance plan with the project that specifies the re-seal interval and the sealer product. If your stamped area ties into adjacent ADA ramps or curb and gutter, we coordinate all the work in one sequence so transitions are clean and the schedule is efficient.

Common questions

Stamped Concrete Questions, Answered

Patterns, colors, sealers, durability and pairing with adjacent commercial surfaces.

Stamped stone, brick, ashlar slate, cobble, custom patterns. Each can be matched to the building's architecture or the surrounding hardscape. We bring sample boards so the pattern decision happens with real swatches in your hand, not photographs.
Integral color (mixed through the slab) is permanent; it cannot fade because it is throughout the concrete. The sealer that protects the color and the surface needs reapplication every few years here to maintain the sharp look.
Less than smooth-troweled concrete, more than broom finish. We use anti-slip additives in the sealer for high-pedestrian areas or where slip is a concern, particularly at entries with foot traffic in our winters.
Sectional replacement to match pattern and color is possible but visible; the joint between old and new shows. Stamped is best treated as a long-term install with maintenance rather than as a serviceable surface like asphalt.
Depends on size and pattern complexity. A typical commercial entry runs a week or so from pour to seal; larger plazas stretch to multiple weeks. The schedule is in the quote so you can plan around the work.
