Restaurant Concrete Floors Built for Portland Operations

Kitchens, wash stations, and dining areas demand different concrete systems. We design and install slip-rated flooring where staff work with grease and water, chemical-resistant slabs where cleaning happens daily, and polished or attractive finishes where guests gather. Each zone gets the right specification, coordinated as one project. Free written estimate on every job.

Zone-specific design

Why Restaurant Concrete Isn't One-Size-Fits-All

A restaurant floor is really three separate problems. The cooking line faces hot oil, grease spills, dropped equipment, and constant scrubbing. The dish pit and prep area see standing water and chemical wash cycles. The dining room and bar see foot traffic and need to look intentional. Specifying one coating across all three zones means compromising on slip resistance, chemical durability, or appearance.

We map each zone's actual use during the estimate, then select the concrete system that handles that specific environment. Kitchen gets anti-slip aggregate with chemical resistance. Wash areas get slope and self-leveling base to manage water. Dining gets polished concrete or a decorative coating. Transitions between zones are detailed so each system finishes cleanly.

This approach extends across all our retail and restaurant work, our broader commercial concrete flooring services, and specialized brewery and winery installations where similar zone logic applies.

Installation sequence

How Restaurant Concrete Floors Get Built in Portland

  1. Walk the space and identify zones

We tour the restaurant with you and the kitchen designer, mark out cooking line, prep, wash-down, dining, bar, and entry areas, and note equipment placement, drain locations, and traffic patterns for each zone.

  2. Select the system for each zone

Kitchen gets slip-rated anti-slip concrete with chemical resistance. Wash areas get a system rated for wet conditions and sloped to drains. Dining and bar get polished or coated concrete that matches the design intent. We document slip ratings for insurance.

  3. Prepare slab and install coatings

Each zone's concrete slab is ground to the right profile, primed, and the coating system applied in layers. Slip-rated zones get aggregate broadcast into the wet coat. Transitions are sealed so water doesn't migrate between zones.

  4. Document maintenance for each zone

Kitchen, wash, and dining teams each get a maintenance sheet specific to their zone. Cleaning chemicals, scrub frequency, and re-seal schedules are spelled out so the floor stays in spec year after year.

Insurance and compliance

Slip-Rated Concrete Flooring Meets Insurance Standards

Restaurant liability insurance typically requires documented slip ratings in kitchen and wash-down areas. A slip-and-fall in a commercial kitchen is one of the costliest incidents in the food-service industry. The slip-rated floor is both a safety measure and an insurance requirement. We specify systems that meet or exceed the ratings your carrier requires and provide the documentation.

Coordinate with your kitchen designer and general contractor so the concrete slab layout matches equipment placement, drain locations, and any floor slopes needed for water management. Our restaurant flooring work integrates with the broader commercial concrete scope and related epoxy flooring systems in other commercial kitchens.

Common questions

Restaurant Flooring Questions, Answered

Kitchen anti-slip, wash-down systems, front-of-house finishes and insurance requirements.

Because three different environments coexist in one space with different demands. Kitchen needs grip plus chemical resistance, wash-down needs slope plus wet-slip rating, front-of-house needs look plus traffic. One system everywhere compromises all three.
Insurance and industry guidelines define minimum slip ratings for wet and dry conditions. We specify the system to meet or exceed those targets, document the rating, and provide that documentation to your insurance carrier or inspector.
In front-of-house, yes, polished concrete is a strong choice for dining and bar areas. Not in kitchens or wash-down zones, polished concrete is not slip-rated for wet kitchen environments. We use it where it fits and other systems where they fit.
Transitions are planned where it makes sense (often at a doorway or material change), the two systems are detailed to meet flush, and the joint is sealed appropriately. The transition is visible but intentional, not improvised.
Sometimes, where the renovation can be zoned. Kitchen and wash-down work typically requires the kitchen to be down for several days for prep and cure. Front-of-house can sometimes be staged around dining hours. We plan around your operations.

Three different systems for kitchen, wash-down and dining. Insurance accepted the slip ratings, staff feel safer, and the dining room looks the way the designer wanted. Three problems solved at once.
