Kitchen & Bath Concrete Countertops Built in Portland

A concrete countertop is a poured-and-finished surface that becomes the working heart of your kitchen or bath. We build them two ways: cast directly on your cabinets for seamless runs, or cast in our shop and installed as finished pieces. Every countertop gets sealed food-safe and finished to your color and edge profile. Start with a free on-site estimate.

Why concrete

When Concrete Countertops Beat Stone or Laminate

Concrete wins when you want a surface that is entirely yours. Stone comes in fixed slabs with fixed edges; laminate is flat and generic. A concrete countertop is cast to your exact dimensions, your chosen color, your edge profile, and any inlays or integrated features you want. The slab becomes part of the kitchen's design, not an afterthought.

The two casting methods serve different timelines and kitchen situations. Cast-in-place pours directly onto the cabinetry, creating seamless runs and integrated drainboards, but the kitchen is disrupted for several days. Shop-cast means the slab is made and cured in our facility, then installed as a finished piece, keeping your kitchen clean during the build. We recommend the right method based on your space and schedule.

Maintenance is straightforward. The sealer protects against spills and stains, and we include a re-seal schedule with every project. The sequence

How Concrete Countertops Get Built in Portland

  1. On-site template and design lock

We measure the cabinetry, mark every sink cutout, cooktop opening, and faucet hole, confirm the edge profile and color sample, and lock the design before any forming begins.

  2. Build forms and place reinforcement

Forms are constructed to match the template, with the edge profile inverted on the bottom for cast-in-place work or the top for shop-cast. Rebar and wire mesh are positioned, color pigment is added to the concrete mix, and any glass or stone inlays are set.

  3. Pour, cure, and grind the surface

Concrete is placed and vibrated to remove air, then cured on schedule. Once cured, the surface is ground progressively finer, then honed or polished to the finish level you chose, matte through high gloss.

  4. Seal and hand off the maintenance plan

A food-safe sealer rated for kitchen use is applied, and you receive a written maintenance schedule showing when to re-seal. This keeps the countertop performing for years.

Real-world use

Concrete Counters Handle Kitchen Work Without Fuss

A concrete countertop is a working surface, not a showpiece. It takes hot pans, knife marks, spills, and the daily grind of a busy kitchen. When sealed and maintained on schedule, it resists staining and wear. Neglected, even the best concrete top can pick up marks. The difference is the sealer and the re-seal cycle, which we explain upfront on every quote.

We are direct about maintenance because it matters. A kitchen countertop gets a different sealer recommendation than a guest bath vanity. The usage is different, so the protection is different. Every quote includes the long-term care plan, not just the install cost. That is how we approach all residential concrete work. See how epoxy garage floors follow the same principle, and explore our estimate process to understand what we measure and why.

Common questions

Indoor Concrete Countertop Questions, Answered

Cast-in-place vs shop-cast, sealers, food-safety, maintenance and edge profiles.

Cast-in-place is best for long integrated runs, integrated drainboards and seamless looks; shop-cast is best when the kitchen has to stay clean during construction and the pieces can be lifted into place. We recommend based on your kitchen and timeline.
Yes, when sealed with a food-safe sealer rated for kitchen use and maintained on the recommended re-seal schedule. Concrete itself is inert; the sealer is what stands between the surface and the spills, and it is what gets refreshed every few years.
Properly designed and cured concrete countertops do not crack in normal use. We engineer reinforcement and joints for the size and use of each top; hairline crazing in the surface is a normal characteristic of concrete and part of the look, not a structural issue.
Yes. Custom edge profiles (square, eased, ogee), inlays (glass, stone, wood), and integrated cast-in sinks are all options. Most of what makes a custom concrete countertop worth choosing over stone is the ability to do those things.
From template to install is typically several weeks because casting and curing are time-bound; the in-kitchen disruption itself is shorter, often just install day for shop-cast or a few days for cast-in-place. Full timeline is on the quote.

Cast-in-place island with an integrated drainboard. Could not have gotten this in stone. Honed finish, integral color, sealed beautifully. The kitchen now has its centerpiece.

Shop-cast vanity with an integrated basin. They templated, cast offsite, installed clean, sealed it. Bath now feels custom in the best way. Maintenance plan was clear up front.

Honest that concrete tops need re-sealing every few years and counted that into the quote. Better than pretending it would never need any care. The counter still looks new after two years.

Custom edge profile that matched our cabinetry detail exactly. Could not get that anywhere else. The kitchen looks designed, not assembled. Worth every dollar.
