Sealed Epoxy Floors for Portland Basements & Shops
Epoxy coating systems bond to properly prepped concrete and create a seamless, washable, chemical-resistant surface that lasts a decade or more. Portland Concrete grinds the slab to profile, tests for moisture, then applies primer, body coat and topcoat in the right sequence. The result is a floor that resists spills, cleans easily and looks finished. Free written estimate on every project.
- Slab ground to manufacturer profile
- Moisture tested before coating
- Full system: primer, body, topcoat
Surface matters most
How Slab Condition Determines Epoxy Success in Portland
Epoxy fails when it sits on a sealed, dusty or damp slab. The coating cannot bond to a surface it cannot grip. We grind or shot-blast every slab to open the concrete pores, test moisture content, and remove any old sealer or contaminant before the first coat goes down.
Once the slab is ready, the epoxy system is chosen to match the room. A basement laundry area gets a basic epoxy with a flake or solid topcoat. A workshop or hobby shop gets a tougher epoxy formulated for solvent and chemical splash. A finished living space gets a decorative metallic or self-leveling epoxy with a clear gloss finish.
The system then goes on in layers, primer for adhesion, body coat with colour or texture if specified, topcoat for durability and sheen, all at the right temperature and humidity. This same discipline applies to our garage floor coating work. When the slab is uneven, we start with self-leveling underlayment to bring it into tolerance. For a decorative look, stained concrete is an alternative that does not require a coating.

The Steps to Install Epoxy Flooring in Portland
-
Assess slab condition and moisture
We inspect for cracks, old sealers, and moisture levels. If the slab needs repair or sealer removal, that happens before epoxy. We confirm the coating system matches the room's use and traffic.
-
Grind or blast to profile
Diamond grinding or shot-blasting opens the concrete surface to the profile the epoxy manufacturer specifies. This mechanical prep is what allows the coating to bond, not just sit on top.
-
Install primer, body, topcoat
We apply the full epoxy system in sequence, primer for adhesion, body coat with flake or metallic if chosen, then topcoat for chemistry resistance and final appearance, all to manufacturer coverage rates.
-
Cure and hand off
Each layer cures to schedule before the next is applied. The topcoat reaches full chemical resistance after the published cure window. We provide the timeline for foot traffic and equipment load.

Epoxy vs. Other Concrete Finishes for Portland Homes
Interior epoxy is the right choice when you need a sealed, washable, chemical-resistant surface. Basements with laundry or storage, hobby shops, utility rooms, and finished living spaces all benefit from epoxy's seamless finish and durability.
If you prefer a hard, no-coating finish, polished concrete is the answer, the slab itself becomes the finish. Stained concrete adds warm colour to the slab, often with a clear topcoat for protection. Micro-topping is a thin overlay that resurfaces a slab that is not coating-ready, preparing it for epoxy or another finish.

Interior Epoxy Floor Questions, Answered
Slab prep, system choice, durability and chemistry resistance for interior epoxy in Portland.
Epoxy in the basement utility room. Seamless, easy to wipe down, and our laundry-spill incidents stopped being a problem the day they finished the install.
Workshop floor with a chemical-resistant topcoat. Two years of solvents and dropped tools and the surface still wipes clean. They prepped the slab properly first, that is the difference.
Decorative metallic epoxy in our finished basement. Looks like a statement floor, but it cleans like vinyl. Way nicer than the carpet we ripped out.
They explained that polished would not work on our slab and recommended a micro-topping plus epoxy instead. Done right, the new floor looks like a brand-new install.
