Equipment Baseplate Grouting with BASF MasterFlow
When a machine sits on a concrete pad, the grout underneath has to stay put. MasterFlow non-shrink grout holds its dimensions through cure, transferring load from the equipment sole plate into the foundation without gaps or settlement. Portland Concrete installs MasterFlow for industrial equipment commissioning, structural anchor retrofits, and any baseplate where engineered grouting prevents failure. Free written estimate on every project.

The baseplate problem
Why Non-Shrink Grout Matters Under Equipment
Ordinary cement grout shrinks as it cures. For most masonry, that shrinkage is invisible. Under a machine baseplate, it's catastrophic. The grout pulls away from the sole plate, creating voids that break the load path. The equipment rocks, vibrates, and settles. MasterFlow non-shrink grout uses engineered chemistry to hold dimensions through the cure cycle, keeping full contact between the baseplate and the foundation.
Portland Concrete installs MasterFlow for turbines, compressors, pumps, and any equipment where the baseplate spec calls for non-shrink performance. We select the right product from the BASF range (cementitious for standard loads, epoxy for high-load or chemically aggressive sites), mix to the exact water ratio, and place by gravity flow, pump, or pressure injection depending on the cavity geometry.
Pair MasterFlow with heavy equipment pad concrete work when the slab and grouting are coordinated, and with MasterTop floor systems if the equipment pad is part of a larger industrial floor. The full BASF product line covers waterproofing, flooring, and grouting as an integrated system.
Installation sequence
How MasterFlow Baseplate Grouting Gets Done
-
Review equipment spec
We obtain the equipment manufacturer's grouting specification and any project engineer requirements, then select the matched MasterFlow product (cementitious or epoxy) and confirm the placement method.
-
Prepare the cavity
The baseplate cavity is cleaned, anchor bolts are verified in position, the baseplate is leveled and shimmed as needed, and the cavity walls are prepped to receive grout.
-
Mix and place grout
MasterFlow is mixed to the BASF-specified water ratio (this ratio is critical to non-shrink performance), then placed into the cavity by gravity flow, pump, or pressure injection depending on geometry and product.
-
Cure and commission
The grout cures per BASF schedule (hours for rapid-set epoxy, days for high-strength cementitious), with the install documented for equipment commissioning and handoff.
The critical detail
Water Ratio Is Everything in MasterFlow
MasterFlow non-shrink performance is engineered to a specific water ratio. Too much water and the grout shrinks like standard cement. Too little and it will not flow into the cavity. We mix to the BASF specification every batch because any deviation compromises the chemistry and the load-transfer performance.
Coordinate with MasterSeal waterproofing when the baseplate is part of a below-grade installation, and with manufacturing floor systems if the equipment pad connects to a larger industrial slab. The BASF brand ecosystem integrates grouting, flooring, and waterproofing into one specification path.

Common questions
MasterFlow Questions, Answered
Cementitious vs epoxy, mix ratios, baseplate spec and commissioning.
MasterFlow under a turbine baseplate, full non-shrink performance verified at commissioning. Equipment runs without vibration issues, no settlement at the pad. Real engineering grouting.
They mixed to the BASF water ratio exactly every batch. The discipline is invisible but the result shows in load-transfer performance through the cured grout.
Equipment retrofit with MasterFlow regrouting on a baseplate that had failed. New install holds; the original had used standard grout and shrunk away from the plate. Right product made the difference.
Rapid-set epoxy MasterFlow on a tight commissioning timeline. Cured to load strength inside the window we had. The right product within the BASF range matters.
