Keeping Water Out of Portland Concrete Structures

Sika waterproofing membranes stop water intrusion on foundations, plaza decks, balconies, and wet rooms. We install Sika Waterproofing systems as a certified Sika-system installer, meaning every substrate prep, primer coat, membrane application, and protection detail follows Sika engineering. The result is a system warranty that covers both product and installation method. Call (613) 324-9141 for a free written estimate.

Sika's role

Why Sika Waterproofing Matters in Portland

Water finds every crack and joint in concrete. Sika's 100+ year track record in waterproofing chemistry means the company has engineered membranes for every exposure condition: sheet membranes that bond to foundation walls before backfill, liquid-applied systems for tight corners and penetrations, and hybrid plaza-deck systems that handle foot traffic while keeping water out.

We install Sika as a system, not just a product. That means substrate is prepped to Sika spec, the primer is applied at the right thickness, the membrane goes down per engineering, and protection layers are installed where required. The system warranty depends on this discipline; we deliver it.

Pair Sika waterproofing with Sika crack injection when existing cracks need sealing before membrane install. Installation sequence

How Sika Waterproofing Gets Installed

  1. Assess the substrate and select system

We evaluate the concrete surface, exposure conditions, and project sequencing to choose the right Sika system. SikaProof sheet works for backfilled walls; Sikalastic liquid handles detail work and plaza decks.

  2. Clean and prepare the concrete

The slab or wall is cleaned to remove dust and contaminants. Cracks are repaired with compatible material, joints are isolated, and moisture is tested per Sika spec before any primer is applied.

  3. Apply primer and membrane

Sika primer is rolled or sprayed onto the prepped concrete. Once cured, the membrane (sheet or liquid) is applied to the engineered thickness, with all corners, joints, and penetrations detailed per Sika drawings.

  4. Install protection and document

Where required, a protection layer (drainage board, screed, or traffic surface) is installed over the membrane. The system is documented for warranty, and the project is handed off with full Sika system paperwork.

System vs. product

Sika Warranty Covers Installation Method

Sika's warranty is a system warranty, not just a product warranty. That means it covers the membrane material and the installation method. If the membrane fails due to installer error, the warranty applies. This is what makes Sika valuable on long-term commercial projects where water intrusion could cost thousands.

We coordinate Sika crack injection for pre-existing cracks, Sika repair for substrate damage, and Sika floor systems when the waterproofing is part of a larger concrete scope. Every Sika product on the job integrates into the system warranty.

Common questions

Sika Waterproofing Questions, Answered

SikaProof vs Sikalastic, plaza decks, warranty and substrate prep.

SikaProof is a pre-applied sheet membrane for substrates that will be backfilled (foundation walls before backfill, blindside walls in tight excavations). Sikalastic is a liquid-applied membrane for tight detail work, plaza decks, balconies. We pick based on project specifics.
Yes, Sika has plaza-deck systems engineered for traffic-exposed waterproofing with protective wear surfaces. We install the full system including the protection layer that handles traffic without compromising the membrane.
System when installed by a Sika-system installer to Sika spec. That extends warranty beyond product replacement to cover install integrity, which is what commercial customers actually need.
Specific prep per system: surface cleanliness, moisture limits, crack repair, joint detail. The Sika spec defines the exact requirements; we follow them because skipping prep voids the system warranty.
Depends on system and area. Foundation walls can be done in days; plaza-deck systems with multiple layers stretch longer. The full schedule is in the quote.
